The Season Wrap-up Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Hey fellas, lots of things to cover this week so let’s get right to it!

It was an exciting season and we should all be proud of what we achieved. We finished the season in a difficult Covid year. Congratulations to the Junior Flyers, Intermediate Canadiens and Master's Bruins as our 2021/22 Champions.

There is only one last task left and that is the 2022 AGM (Annual General Meeting). It's every member's right to be there so come on out for a chance to ask questions to the executive board and participate in elections. Also, the championship jackets will be given out! Hope to see you there! June 13th 7pm Council Chamber at Old Stoney Creek City Hall (777 #8 Rd. at Jones Rd.)

The Playoff Extravaganza Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

What a scene it was all weekend as SCOHA-Nation ran wild on anyone that gave a care. Friday Night’s Junior Division Championship was nuttier than a squirrel turd as the game went into overtime before a winner was declared. Intermediate and Masters provided some additional drama as every player skated until their blades ran out. I feel sorry for the fans that thought the games would be on Cable 14 but unfortunately the games were blacked out in our region. Next time they won’t cheap out and buy some tickets.

JUNIOR DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

FLYERS 5 BRUINS 4 (OVERTIME) I couldn’t believe how many fans were in the stands for this one! What an atmosphere as the Flyers finished off a roller coaster ride of a season by winning the cup. To recap: 19 penalties called which caused a dramatic escalation of tension between the two clubs, a few game misconducts, 2 penalty shots, yes 2 penalty shots, and the person who won the $28.00 50/50 draw wasn’t around to claim their prize. Fans went home saying this was easily the craziest game they have ever witnessed. Fans paid for their seat but only needed the edge of it. Flyer’s captain Mike Haslam drove the bus and the horse, scoring 2 pivotal goals from long distance to help the cause. This guy lugged the mail a lot this season, a clear indication he will re-sign with the club in the off-season. Also hitting the game sheet was Kevin Wyatt, who scored the overtime winner, Ryan “orange” Popek and Dave “magic” Johnson. Bruins Dino LaPorta scored a hatty and drove the Bruins bus home after. Jeff Davis also replied for the B’s. Congrats to both teams for a great game that we won’t soon forget. Good luck with summer training and contract negotiations, see you next season! Personally, it was great following this division all year, great players on and off the ice.

The April Showers Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

First of all, welcome to spring where no matter what jacket you pick, you’re wrong. I am recording this week’s blog from sick bay where this stomach virus combined with a chest cold makes me feel like I got ran over by the Lakeshore West Go-Train and I don’t mean big #9 on the Intermediate Flyers, Ryan Maybrey. Also, speaking of the Intermediate Flyers, let’s hope their team gets well soon as they battle some illnesses at such a pivotal time in the season.

The Post-St. Paddy’s Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Ok, someone spiked my 18th beer last Thursday as I pretended to be a true Irishman. I noticed a lot more players wandering up to the Lookout Lounge this past weekend, signs of everything re-opening just in time for SCOHA playoffs. Thanks to the few guys who came up to me to praise this weekly blog. I appreciate the unbridled enthusiasm for the writeup! Let’s get right to the action!

The St. Padddy’s Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Per Darren Dreger of TSN, he believes there are going to be many upsets this year as SCOHA approaches playoff-time. Masters Division regular season is wrapped up while the other 2 divisons are just playing things out before their 2nd season begins. Masters Jim Albanese is going to come back from Florida more dark than a forgotten grilled cheese on the stove. He is almost out of coconut oil so he will be asking anyone to put some Noxema on his back to help soothe the burn. Meanwhile, Bruins captain Gord Bryce is looking forward to Shen Yun returning to Hamilton Place but will not miss any games.

The Spring is Right Around the Corner Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

See the standings lately? What in the name of Bill Derlago is going on? Masters enter their last weekend of regular season games and so much is still yet to be decided. 4 teams are separated by 2 measly points!  Bruins Gord Bryce already has his pencil and notepad out trying to predict the final standings and playoff scenarios. Junior Division still has 3 games left before playoffs so anything can happen there. The Oilers are only 1 point back of the B’s for first and don’t count out the Flyers who are planning a late season drive for first. Intermediate Division is still up for grabs. We all know things can go sideways at any time, especially in the playoffs! Anyways, let’s dissect last week’s action before it gets too late….

The Playoff Push Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Back from a week in the sun and sand, there’s a lot to catch up on. First off, let’s give a stick tap to John Annibale who is resting at home. This guy is a bulldog on the ice so we know he will get better soon and be back out there ready to go next season! John galvanizes the spirit of SCOHA hockey. I was talking to Gretz the other day and he even said he would love to have him on his team any day. Get well soon, fella!

The Valentine’s Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Love definitely wasn’t in the air last week as there were more whistles than Shania Twain walking by a construction site for crying out loud. Hopefully amazon delivers the new whistles before this weekend’s games… Anyways, playoffs are in sight as all teams continue to jostle for a better position in the standings. Home ice advantage is key as well as having the last change and the 8 fans screaming at the top of their lungs. Besides that, let’s recap some games..

The Convoy Edition

SCOHA 2021/2022

Well folks, the SCOHA Convoy rolled back into town this past weekend, minus the car horns from our many fans and supporters from coast to coast and around the globe. Did you catch any of the Junior games Friday night? Talk about some fast hockey! All 4 teams beat Usain Bolt by half an hour they were so fast. Anyways, while arena crews get the red lights replaced above the nets from all the scoring last week, let’s unmask the goings on before this report gets delayed another day…
