This Week in SCOHA – October 1st, 2024
The Weird Nachos from up at the Bar Edition
Hey folks, did anyone else feel like they hung drywall for 8 hours after their game this week? Only 3 weeks into the season and most teams have already found more grooves than a Barry White album. Others meanwhile were forced to hit the reset button before this week’s upcoming games.
United Division:
FLYERS 9 BRUINS 3: The Flyers took the Bruins behind the woodshed. Dylan McInerney doesn’t panic when pressure arrives. His 3 goals and 3 assists proved that point. Mike Rostecki also chipped in with a pair of snipes while Lucas Palamamarchuk, hope I spelled that right, scored a goal and added a hamburger helper for the winners. Don’t worry about the Bruins, fellas. These guys can walk off a broken leg and be ready for next game. They will be ok.
BLACKHAWKS 4 REDWINGS 3: Paul “quick draw” McGraw scored the eventual game winner, his 973rd of his illustrious carrer, as the Hawks edged the pesky Redwings 4-3. Quite the spirited game as we saw on the Cable14 Game of the Week. Both teams had their fair share of point blank chances in the slot but couldn’t fire them home. Redwings Bob Tenison found his way back onto the gamesheet, scoring a beauty, what else is new…
Masters Division:
BRUINS 9 SENATORS 2: The Bruins battled through the echoes of the whistles all night long as they folded up the Sens like a Manitoba street map 9-2. Wayne Sliwinski and Dave Graham had matching 2 goals and 2 assist games for the B’s. Gotta give some flowers to the Bruins defence who thwarted the Sens attack time after time. Also helped that their spare goalie Chris Harvey stood on his head all damn night for the W. Senators got 2 goals from speedy veteran Henry Marfisi in a losing cause. The Sens promise to keep the compass pointed north and will give their fans a better game this weekend against the pesky Penguins, undefeated so far.
SHARKS 9 BLACKHAWKS 5: Mike Christensen and mystery player #7 both scored a pair of goals as the Sharks took a bite out of the Blackhawks 9-5. Sharks might as well have played with orange construction vests on as they definitely brought their work boots on this night. Hey look at that, mystery guy #7 also had 2 assists, great game fella! Newcomer Brad Stapleton is a nail gun out there, folks. He set up 2 goals and had a strong game out there, earning a solid spot on this Sharks roster. Jason Hoffman dropped a deuce for the Hawks who are close to turning things around. I am predicting a big win this weekend, heard it here first.
PENGUINS 6 DEVILS 3: Steve “take the bull by the” Horner was his usual self, scoring a pair of snipes as the Pens wrote off the Devils 6-3. Mike “golden” Archer added a goal and 3 assists for the winners as he continues to raise eyebrows amongst fans and his teammates. This Penguin team drafted Tim Manning for his tenacity and defensive prowess that he perfected during his 4 year stint with the Wichita Magnets back in 2004.
Grand Masters Division:
FLYERS 4 SHARKS 1: Terry “electric avenues” Hughes scored his 651st career goal as the Flyers harpooned the Sharks 4-1 in front of an announced crowd of 4. During the postgame media scrum, Hughes looked agitated when a Burlington Bugle reporter asked him if he was starting to slow down at this point of his career. Hughes took the high road, raised his right eyebrow, and turned to another question. Gord Bryce had 2 penalties for the Flyers, he must’ve had crispy skinned bass for a pre-game meal. Paul “jersey” Shorer had the lone Devil goal then spray-painted the Flyers team bus before heading home.
REDWINGS 9 STARS1: The Wings seared the Stars on both sides, folks. Make the final 9-1 as Dave Jarvis had his 8th career 5-goal game! Dave sat down with us for this week’s SCOHA Pucks in Deep podcast and said his work in the gym has definitely helped his game. He added that he had some luck on a couple goals but was quick to praise his linemates for the big game. Dave definitely added some strength over the off-season, looks like he could curl an HSR bus. Richard Paquet played a solid game sparing for the Redwings. He said post-game that he hopes this confidence carries on well into the season. He stuck around afterwards and signed autographs out in the lobby.
An added feature this week as we introduce the Premium Plus Tool Repair & Packaging WORKHORSES OF THE WEEK.
This week’s winners are:
United: Dylan McInerney (Flyers)
Masters: Dave Graham (Bruins)
Grand Masters: Dave Jarvis (Redwings)
Well that’s all from this end of the ice. Have a great rest of the week. Thanks to all players for their moment of silence Sunday for John Elter. We will pass along funeral notice once we see it.
Everyone received the email with the hockey pool sheet. Hurry up and get yours in before opening night!
