It has come to my attention that there may have been some confusion over the grace period that facial protection must be worn to play in our association games. The grace period was the “Ice Breaker Weekendâ€. Effective the weekend of September 22nd all players must wear facial protection. If a player attempts to play without this piece of equipment he will be asked to leave the ice until he is wearing the equipment.

 

We are asking our team captains to communicate this information to the players on his team as soon as possible so that there will be enough time to purchase the equipment.

 

We appreciate your co-operation on this issue and we hope that this is another step in making our association safer for everyone.

RE: 2006/2007 SCOHA Division Mandate & Player Draft

 

The season is fast approaching and your executive has made a decision on the division breakdown based on the membership’s registrations as we promised. The membership has spoken and we will continue with two divisions, Junior & Intermediate, for the 2006/2007 season. We will keep our association’s times the same as last season but ad six more games to the regular season for a total of 28 games plus play-offs. We will revisit this issue in the future when our membership is ready for it.

We have also decided to change the date of the draft to September 5th - 8:00pm at The Look-out lounge meeting room. We believe that the extra time will allow us to completely fill both divisions.

The Intermediate is almost full now and those who wish to play in this division should hurray and get their registration in. The Junior division is slightly behind and we encourage these individuals that want to play in this division to please send their registration in ASAP. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this process and we are confident that we have done our best to serve the membership.

• The player draft for the 2006/2007 season will be on August 25th @ the meeting room-Look-Out Lounge.

 The time is 7:00pm sharp.

 If you know of players that still have not registered, please encourage them to do so as quickly as possible because we are past the August 1st deadline to hold spots and we are now taking registrations on a first come basis. The registration form can be found on our web site, www.scoha.com.

Hello All

To update everyone, John continues to rehab twice daily and is getting better every single day. He is improving better then expected to regain the use of his body due to the diving accident this summer.
 
As mentioned in Marc's posting earlier today, there will be a Fundraiser get together to raise money for the Grumbach Family and two other families of Stoney Creek.  It is being hosted by the Stoney Creek Optimist Little League. at Stogey’s 443 Hwy 20 at Tapleytown Road (The Old Redwood Inn) on Friday August 11, 2006. Starts @ 7:00pm and Tickets are $10 per person. There will be a cold buffet, games, raffles, door prizes, a DJ and of course cold beverages.

 Dear SCOHA members,

I am writing this letter to update you on some exciting and positive things that we have accomplished for the 2006/2007 season.

• Our season will open with the “Ice Breaker Weekend†that will allow you to play three regular season games and get to know your new teammates and have some fun.
• Our membership is guaranteed 28 regular season games plus 1 play-off game for a cost of $360.00. The most amount of games in the city for no additional cost to you. This is an increase from 22 games last season.
• We are playing hockey on the Friday going into the March Break but not the Sunday and the reverse will happen on the following week. This should help those members that go away on the break.
• We have worked out a plan to reduce the down time between the end of our season and the April Fools tournament. There is now only a week apart.
• We listened to our members and at the AGM it was decided by our membership that will wear facial protection, visors etc., to encourage safety while we play.
• We have removed the policy of player protection at your request. This will promote fellowship amongst our members as they get to meet new teammates.

 Our association is healthy both financially and in terms of new membership. I would like to remind you to get your registration form in quickly. The August 1st deadline is fast approaching. After this date registrations will be accepted on a first come basis.

 We look forward to a new season about to begin and we look forward to speaking with you and seeing you on the ice in the weeks to come.

On June 4th, 2006, John Grumbach,  a member of the Junior Division Bruins, was seriously injured in a swimming accident fracturing his neck in 2 places and dislodging 3 herniated disks. He was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital with no movement from his neck down. A few days later, after several tests, John underwent neck surgery to repair these fractures, remove the disks and to relieve the pressure being applied to his spinal cord. After 6 hours of successful surgery John was placed into I.C.U. for approximately a week and then transferred to the Spinal Trauma Unit.

 John is now on his way to recovery. Everyday he undergoes intense physical therapy to help him regain, feeling, strength and movement that he had lost due to the accident. This can take anywhere from 4 to 16 months.

 This is going to be a long process for John and his family but they are not alone. Their family and friends have provided continuous support either by visiting John in the hospital or by sending cards and get well wishes.

 A Trust Fund has also been set up in John’s name at the Scotiabank on Upper Wentworth. For those of you that would like to help out John and his family during this time, donations can be made to Account No. 55236-05250-81

 John is now located at Chedoke Hospital on the Hamilton Mountain, Room 384 of the Holbrook Building. Visiting hours are from 11:00am to 8:00pm. Visitors are important to John as it contributes to a positive patient experience and positive health outcomes.
