The It’s Dark At 4:30pm Edition
Well folks, looking forward to changing the clocks back in the spring, this dark at 4:30 stuff isn’t sitting well.
United Division:
Flyers 2 Bruins 1: Flyers Mike Rostecki continues to shine with effortless style and confidence out there. Mike picked up both tallies for the guys in orange as they snuck by the Bruins 2-1. This game resembled a playoff atmosphere for the most part. Both “Ministers of the Meshed Mansions” Anthony Quaglia and Brad Stone showed why they are in a league above the others, no disrespect. Ryan Haslam set up both Rostecki goals while for the Bruins, Steve Ditta had the lone snipe in a losing cause, assisted by who else but Joe Shulist. Flyers Jeff Pye was a bit crusty after getting a hooking call he didn’t agree with. Flyers are rolling, still haven’t lost and hold a 5 point lead in the standings. Storing wins before their best guys start going away on vacation in a few months.
Leafs 4 Blackhawks 1: John “ok I’m not going to tell you kids again, now get in the” Carvalho had a 2-goal performance for the ages as the Leafs beat the Hawks 4-1. Peter DeNew made the news again by turning aside 22 shots for the victory. Peter stuck around afterwards to talk to the media, had some high praise for his defencemen in front of him and also admitted he uses the same socks in his skates all season before washing them. I don’t know about you but those things are going to smell like the circus by Christmas. Thanks to Nick Grivich for subbing in for the Leafs, this guy can skate Lake Ontario and not need a glass of water.
Masters Division:
Sharks 4 Leafs 2: Sharks had 8 skaters but they got timely goals when their chances came. Doug Moulton is starting to mold into quite the signing by Sharks GM Steve Saulnier, well worth the 8 million, one year deal he signed back in August. Doug had a pair for the winning side while Joad Durst and the previously mentioned Steve Saulnier also lit the lamp. For the Leafs it was Darren Jo-Leaf and Larry “silky mittz” Litzgus with goals in a losing cause. Leafs were missing their star defenceman Peter Fantauzzo as he continues to deal with some bumps and bruises but hopes to be back soon.
Senators 5 Bruins 0: Scott Mlekuz turned aside 14 shots as the Senators kept their stranglehold on first place with a 5-0 whitewash of the Bruins. The Bruins were down a few key players but apparently this was a one-off, they will be back this week seeking a quick turnaround. Sens rookie Eric Pearson had a pair and would’ve had the hatty but he was tripped right before firing the puck into the empty net. He also added an assist for good measure. Kevin Roy also chipped in with a pair of helpers for the winers.
Grand Masters Division:
Kraken 3 Stars 1: D.J. Burns is not a D.J. folks, sorry to disappoint you. He went out there and scored the game winner halfway through the game that stood up. This Kraken team is locked in, you heard it here first. Steve Kivell scored again, this guy is all over the puck like flies on a rib roast. Having a great season and is one of my leading candidates for grand masters MVP. Steve MacDonald had a goal, E-eye, E-eye oh…
Blackhawks 4 Sharks 1: Nathan Seepersaud can score goals in his sleep, well we all do but he carries it onto the ice each and every week. Nate scored a pair, including the game winner as the Hawks folded up the Sharks like a chicken salad wrap with a side of plain corn chips 4-1. John Pogorzelec (got him in the pool) also scored for the winners while Guy “how did you cut your chin? Oh it was my brand new” Shaver replied for the Sharks. Props to Denis Whitwell who set up 2 of the Hawk goals, tying him with Paul Coffey on the all-time assist list.
Flyers 4 Bruins 0: Brad Ballman turned aside 16 shots for the 3-cheese lightly toasted bagel as the Flyers got a much-needed victory 4-0 over the Bruins. Ghislain Piche had a goal and an assist, his 23rd multi-goal game of his illustrious career. Bruins coach and GM Gord Bryce held a closed-door meeting afterwards as they tried ironing things out after this tough loss. Apparently Monday morning practice was a no-puck practice but was really because Gord forgot them in his garage.
At any rate, keep a keen eye on this Bruin club, they have all the right cards in place to take a run at the Kraken. They play each other December 7th, I will be there watching.
