The Neo Citran Edition

Well folks... cold season is in full swing at this fellas house. Throat feels like i swallowed a wool sweater but there's deadlines to meet. Let's dive into last weeks action.

United Division:

Flyers 7 Leafs 6: Wow i had the under 5.5 on this game, so much for that. Flyers were down 5 guys but spares filled in admirably as they edged the Leafs 7-6. More back and forths than that gigantic lumberjack saw with a guy at both ends. When the final buzzer sounded, Flyers prevailed and Duane Marzi scored the winner then donated the puck to Sick Kids. Ryan Haslam kicked off the season with 2 goals and an apple while for the Leafs, Brent Ellis and John Carvalho both dropped a deuce in a losing cause. Both teams said they would go over some game tapes and tighten things up defensively.

Bruins 7 Blackhawks 2: This Jordan Campbell kid can play. 3 goals in his first career SCOHA game as the Bruins dumped the Hawks 7-2. Joe Schulist wore his best shoes to the rink, went out there and scored a goal and added a pair of Gretzky-like assists for the winning side. For the Hawks, captain Ron Cybalski and Jonathan O'Grady scored in a losing cause.

Let's be honest, folks, Hawks were missing a few snipers at this gunfight. It's still early, plenty of time to get things running smooth... they will be there at the end, mark my word.

Masters Division:

Bruins 2 Senators 1: Quite the defensive battle as both teams needed spare goalies to accupy their respective creases. Richard Forster and Wayne Sliwinski lit the lamp for the pesky Bruins while Chris Marttila drained the lone Sens goal on a fancy tic-tac-toe play. If you come to the arena as a fan hoping for a defensive game you are wierd but we respect that. This game, although scrambly at times, was in fact a defensive battle. Thanks to both goalie subs for your great game!

*insert about 13 coughs here*

Sharks 4 Leafs 2: S.S.S.S. stands for sleek skating Steve Saulnier. He scored the eventual game winner, his second of the game, as his Sharks remain undefeated with a big 4-2 win over the Leafs. The Officer of the Oblong Onion bag, goaltender Bruno Santanato turned aside 36 shots for the win. For the Leafs, Steve Horner and Larry Litzgus scored typical highlight-reel goals as they continue to play at a level unrealistic to many. Litzgus' favourite colour is green. He likes it better than blue and yellow combined. Leafs Jeff Davis played in his 500th SCOHA game and is only 17,681 games behind grand masters superstar Ron Cooper. I predict by 2056-57 he will match it.

*another 8 coughs*

Grand Masters:

Bruins 3 Sharks 0: Tim Manning, no relation to Peyton, has started the season with an extra jump out there. Tim scored the game winning goal and J.J.MacNeil turned aside 19 shots as the Bruins blanked the Sharks 3-0. Terry "hitman" Hughes and Yves "trough" Bisson also replied for the winners. Ronny Cooper had a closed-door meeting after this one but declined comment afterwards.

Kraken 5 Blackhawks 0: Kraken goalie Joe DeFaria is defying gravity with some of the saves he is making out there. 5 different goal scorers bulged the twine including Sam Carubba on a penalty shot as the Kraken folded up the Hawks like a 3-cheese chicken quesadilla. (easy on the hot sauce, please and thank you). Tony Vastano (got him in the pool) scored and added a pair of assists for the winners. Tony plays a strong game at both ends of the rink. His contract is up at the end of the year and he will be looking for a big payday. You heard it here first.

Stars 3 Flyers 0: I think Stars goalie Barry Walker is an early front-runner for rookie of the year, proove me wrong. 32 saves for the multi-grain bagel as the Stars outshined the Flyers 3-0. Barry stuck around and signed autographs for the kids until the streetlights came on. Good job! Fans are first and formost important to this damn league.

Well that's all from this end of the ice. Our fearless leader Terry Gudgeon is sidelined 4-6 weeks after a fall but he is committed to returning in even better shape. Not sure which shape but we will see.

Remember to get your hockey pool sheets in before next Tuesday at 5pm if you want in. Have a great rest of the week, see you on the weekend.
