This Week in SCOHA – November 21st, 2024
The Soggy Week Edition
Well folks, this week’s blog only pertains to 2 United Division games, but they are worth dissecting before the deadline hits. Good news is that Masters Guy Shaver didn’t put the chip dip on his head at the work Christmas party again for the 3rdyear in a row so that’s good start to the festive season…
United Division:
Bruins 6 Redwings 3: Matt “window” Sills scored a pair of beauties and took the game puck home as the Bruins doubled up the Redwings 6-3 in front of a boisterous announced crowd of 2. Despite getting 3 penalties, the Bruins played their prototypical get pucks deep, do the little things right, establish the forecheck and just keep it simple style of game. It paid off and they took the 2 points, loaded up the damn bus and got the hell out of there. Let’s pause for a sec and talk about rookie defenceman Jamie McGinnis who played 4 seasons in the Iron League before signing a lucrative deal with the SCOHA Bruins. I heard he played several games in the Iron League with just a Northface jacket under his jersey. No shoulder pads, no elbow pads, just a jacket. For the Redwings, John “I Walk The” Lynes scored a goal of the year candidate while Tom Butler seems to be fitting in well with his new team.
Flyers 6 Blackhawks 1: Flyers were missing 6 players as they rented a bus and hit up the Swift concert but still managed to smoke the Hawks 6-1. Spare goalie Anthony “he’s not your cousin, he’s” Miekuz shut the front door on several occasions as he picked up his first SCOHA win between the pipes. Kyle Relf scored twice and so did Ryan Haslam who amazingly enough decided not to go to the concert but wore a Swifty bracelet under his glove for good luck. For the Hawks, Shawn James had the lone goal in a losing cause. Shawn spoke to reporters after the game and said the guys had a closed-door meeting after this loss. He added that his team felt like they ran into a vending machine full of sandbags, couldn’t find any open ice out there and the Flyers kept coming at them from all angles.
There were no Masters or Grand Masters games this past weekend so they will be all fired up for this weekend’s return to action.
Well that was a brief recap of last week’s action. Well, what took you so long to write the blog? Because I knew there were only 2 damn games so I had the time to think about what to say.
So there...
