The Superbowl Edition

Well the big game is this weekend and I'm not talking about the Masters Stars and Bruins matchup on Saturday night. Half of us will eat too many spicy wings, go to bed, then wake up at 3am with acid reflux and a burning throat for an hour. Ok maybe that will be me but whatever.

United Division:

Redwings 2 Bruins 0: This game had all the earmarks of a cup final. Redwings played the trap better than the 94 New Jersey Devils, thwarting any chance the Bruins had of trying to gain possesion in their end of the rink. Brad Ballman turned aside 35 shots for another shutout. He is 4 shy of Gerry Cheevers for most shutouts in a season. Scoring for the Wings were Anthony Whitwell and recent callup Sandro Morrone.

Masters Division:

Stars 8 Sharks 1

Chris Barratto brought a case of Dr.Pepper into the room for pregame. The guys were so doped up on sugar, they stuck around afterwards and skated laps at full-speed until they barfed. Alfonso "timberrrrr" Tinebra had a hatty while Warren "don't call it the woods, call it" DeForest scored a pair and added an assist for the winners.

Penguins 4 Bruins 0: Without Gord Bryce and Terry Hughes in the lineup for the 2nd straight game, must be on vacation, who knows, the Bruins fell 4-0 to a spirited Penguin club who just keep the train rolling this year with another win. Al "camp" Granata scored the game winner while Paul Cleary continues to have a fantastic season with a goal and an assist. John "helter" Elter returned to the lineup and scored a head-scratcher of a goal from an impossible angle. J.J. Macneil made 24 saves for the goose egg. Great game J.J.!

Kings 4 Blackhawks 1: Rick "tik tok" Estok scored a hat trick, the 23rd of his illustrious career as the Kings folded up the Hawks like a used picnic blanket. Steve Smith scored the lone Hawk goal and captain Billy Kircos refused to talk to the media after the game. He accepted the $48.50 fine for not being made available for questions during postgame.

Redwings 6 Flyers 3: Steve "killa" Watt and Larry "silky mitts" Litzgus both scored a pair and Terry Gudgeon set up a pair as the Wings tossed and sauced the Flyers 6-3. The Pharmasave Flyer of the Game was Dave Graham who registered a goal and an assist. The guys in orange gave it their all but ran out of gas late in this one.

Odd schedule this weekend as Masters games will be on Saturday due to the Super Bowl. That's all for this edition of the blog. I am as tired as a pair of dentures after a cold buffet but theres no time for pitty, the weekend is almost here. Have a great night, folks.
