This Week in SCOHA – December 16th, 2021
The Mincemeat Pie Edition
Hey Gang, sorry for the delay, some Sara McLaughlin Christmas snoring was taking place. An abbreviated version of the blog this time around. Hope everyone survived the Grey Cup food that exited our bodies with a velocity that made us all yell. Only two games on the ol’ docket last weekend but they were full of more ups and downs than a fiddler’s elbow. The government has advised against large gatherings this holiday season so if you were thinking about going to Master’s Dale Brons’ wreath-making party this Saturday afternoon, please make alternate plans. Hey, do you listen to podcasts? A heads up, there was no SCOHA podcast this week due to new Covid protocols at the studio. Anyways, let’s get to another round of news and information from around the league…..
JUNIOR DIVISION:
OILERS 4 BRUINS 3: Ryan “Preheat to 350? Nope… 375, I like it more” Chard was on fire this game. 2 highlight-reel goals lifted the Oilers past the Bruins 4-3 as both teams provided heroics on the Rogers Cable 14 game of the week. Taylor Tompkins leaped into 3rd place in the scoring race with a goal and 2 apples for the winning side. Oilers have won 3 straight since captain Steve Ditta started cranking Nickelback in the locker room before the game. Seems to be working, fella! If anyone missed the highlights, Bruins Noah Verrier, son of Marc, scored a goal that will be talked about around the Verrier dinner table over the holidays. Way to go, kid! Bruins goalkeeper and all around nice guy, Steve Cuthbert, admittedly had a bit of an off night. His glove hand usually resembles a vacuum that could suck the lips off a sleeping donkey. Just didn’t have it that night. Look out this week, he is guaranteeing a win for his hockey club.
FLYERS 5 REDWINGS 4: Flyers captain Mike Haslam was smiling like he slept with a hanger in his mouth after this one. The SCOHA future hall of famer scored a goal and added 2 assists as the Flyers outlasted the Redwings 5-4. Redwings had more subs than a game of Battleship as they were missing 6 guys. Flyers called up Scott “Johnson and” Johnson to tend the crease and he shut the front door to preserve the win. Johnson leaves the skins on the potatoes. More flavour. You heard it here first, folks. Anyways, the Redwings will rub some dirt on this loss and get ready for the next game. It was a media circus after the game as the Redwings tried to piece together the attendance issues surrounding their team.
That’s all the action that went down last weekend. Ice is ready for this weekend’s games. Thanks to Bruce MacDonald for coughing up an old SCOHA pik for the facebook page. Feel free to send some more so we can see them and reminisce about the good ol’ days. Also, thanks for the 8 donations to the SCOHA tree of hope, funds went toward my annual mince-meat pies and homemade egg-knock.
See you all at the rink this weekend. Keep that stick on the ice!
