This Week in SCOHA – September 24th, 2024
The Still Feeling Things Out Edition
Well week two is wrapped up and the weekend is just a million days away so let's recap the goings-on from Scohaville this past weekend.
United Division:
Blackhawks 7 Bruins 4: Good grief this Ron Cybalski kid is going to go far in this league. He picked up a casual 3 goals and 2 assists as the Hawks preyed on the Bruins 7-4. Shawn James is no slouch either, picking up 2 goals and 2 assists for the winners. Andrew "kilometre" Miles also chipped in with a goal and 2 apples. Bruins got a solid effort from Sean Riley. He had a goal and 2 hamburger helpers in the loss. Don't worry about this Bruin club, folks, they have a great team on paper. They will find their game very quickly.
Flyers 2 Redwings 2: Wes Smith can skate like a deer if deers skated. He scored both goals for the Wings as they tied the powerhouse Flyers 2-2 on the Cable14 game of the week. Mike Haslam racked up 4 penalty minutes as he edges closer to Tiger Williams on the all-time penalty minute list. Fun fact is that Mike has over 2,000 more points than Tiger. His son Ryan scored one of the goals for the guys in orange. Pretty fast-paced game as this ine could've went either way.
Masters Division:
Penguins 5 Blackhawks 3: Peter Fantauzzo can score goals. That's why he keeps getting paid the big bucks. He dropped a deuce as the Pens beat the Blackhawks 5-3. Paul Opie also impressed with a goal and an assist for the powder blue guys. Brock Hotrum notched a pair for the Hawks as they look for a big win this upcoming weekend to get back on track.
Senators 2 Devils 1: Larry Litzgus scored the game winner and Tymen Edelkoort turned aside 29 shots, as the Sens staved off the pesky Devils 2-1. Edelkoort took a laser beam off the stick of Steve "killa" Watt but hopefully he will be ready for this weekends game. It'll buff out. Nick Miscione had the lone Devil goal.
Bruins 3 Sharks 0: Brad Ballman turned aside 24 shots for his 32nd career shutout as the Bruins harpooned the Sharks 3-0. Ed Walton scored a pair for the Bruins, surpassing Dennis Hull for the all time goal scoring list. What a night for Walton as fans went home with his bobble-head. Ed stuck around and signed all 6 that were given away.
Grand Masters:
Flyers 2 Stars 0: Brad Ballman spared in net for the Flyers and recorded the shutout, two in one night! (Brick wall, extra grout) as the Flyers blanked the Stars 2-0. SCOHA journeyman Terry Hughes along with Grant King scored the goals for the energetic Flyers who seem to be finding their groove early this season.
Sharks 8 Redwings 2: This one went sideways in a hurry, folks. Ernie Dunston with 4 goals, Ron Cooper scored again, and a few others got on the gamesheet while Max Pizza Grill scored a pretty impressive goal for the Wings who were overcooked on this night. Plenty of season left to get the train back on the track fellas.
Team reps, please make any corrections to gamesheets and email me asap before i do the stats to make things go smoother. Been an adventure so far this season to say the least. Thanks.
Well that's about it from this end of the ice. Busy week but we are getting through it. Hope you have a great rest of the week. Oh, we still need timekeepers, so if you know of anyone, let us know! Thanks to Sydnee LoCicero for helping out last week! Greatly appreciated.
