Chatterblock v3.0 Help

Overview:

The chatterblock can be used a bulletin board, a place to broadcast a message to your sites community or sending private messages to other registered GL site users. With the new auto-refresh mode and pop-up alerts, this block can be used to send instant messages. Leave the site running in a browser in the background and get a popup alert if a new public post or private message has been posted on the site. Even leave a private message for someone that is not signed in and they will see it the next time then sign into your site

Just enter your message and hit Send. If you are signed in, your name will be displayed by the posted message. You can enter an optional name if you are not signed in - feature needs to be enabled by the site administrator.

You use /tell command to send a private message or click on the Ensure you enter a comma after the username. Send yourself a message as a test. Example: /tell admin, this is a private message

Chatterblock now supports smilies , just click on the smilie by the send button to see the full listing of available smilies. Clicking on the smilie in the help file will enter the code for the smilie. You can also just enter the code example =>

Chatterblock window now uses icons for 1) Message posted time and 2) IP address of user. Hovering over the and icons will show the related details. This method reduces the screen clutter and leaves more room for just the message.

Chatterblock Modes:

Chatterblock 3.0 supports three display modes:

  1. Static: the original look with a fixed number of posts

  2. Smooth Scroller: View messages with a scroller to easily display more messages. Number of messages determined by the configured hours of history set

  3. iframe - auto refresh mode: Major new feature that allows the block to operate independent and refresh automatically without requiring a main page refresh. Users can set the refresh interval and amount of history to show. Users will see a highlighted message at top of the message window to indicate number of private messages.

User Settings:

If the site admin has enabled user defined settings, you will see a Chatterblock Settings menu item in your User Functions Block. This will allow you to set your personal preference for a number of settings including:

  • Set the Chatterblock Mode for the block
  • Number of hours of history to see
  • Enable/Disable the popup-alert
  • Set the number of lines to see per page in the chatterlog

    Chatterlog:

New to version 3.0, you can now see all of this chatter history. It includes ability for users to change the way messages are sorted by clicking on the display header Date and User titles. Site Admins have additional features to manage the public and private messages. Users can also edit their last posted message in the Chatterlog - but only if it is the very last posted message.
