The Dump & Change Edition

Last week’s games were a complete 180 degree turn-around from the previous week, lemme tell ya. United’s Walt Blagdon was skating around like he had motors on his skates. I don’t know what this guy has for a pre-game meal but I bet it’s rich in essential minerals. At any rate, let’s dip into the weekend that was…

 United Division:

Blackhawks 4 Leafs 3: Captain Ron Cybalski and Andrew “I can see for” Miles both lit the lamp twice as the Hawks hung on to defeat the Leafs 4-3. Walt Blagdon did everything but drive the team bus, recording 3 assists for the winners while Rob Stewart notched a pair and Angelo Fidanza replied for the guys in blue and white.  Both Wizards of the Wired Warehouses played well, making several 5-star saves for their respective teams. Spare Aaron Baxter for the Hawks and Peter DeNew for the Leafs showed their willingness to stop anything thrown at them despite heavy traffic in front of them. Great game to watch, I caught the replay on ParrotTV Saturday morning with a bowl of Kix.

Flyers 5 Bruins 2: Flyers Duane Marzi had to train inside an empty swimming pool this summer because someone swiped his gym pass. He could of easily seen the empty swimming pool and became a skateboarder but he stuck with the game he loves. He also worked on his reaction time by converting the pool into a makeshift tennis court, serving it up against the wall over and over again. Marzi had a goal and an apple for the Flyers as they beat the Bruins 5-2. Dylan McInerney did what he usually does, putting points on the damn scoresheet. He ended the night with a goal and an assist for the fellas in orange. Jeff Pye must’ve been the last guy into the room for the first game, he got jersey #6. It pays to get there early for the first game, take that advice or leave it. Speaking of #6, Jordan Campbell scored both goals for the Bruins and he doesn’t give a care that he is #6, just give him the puck. This kid can skate like a damn deer out there. Grab his rookie card, you will thank me later.

 Masters Division:

Leafs 3 Bruins 2: Newcomer via trade Marc Ayotte has scored “Ayotte” of goals in his hockey career, you can tell. Add another 2 to the back of his hockey card as his pair of snipes helped the Leafs win 3-2 over the pesky Bruins.

Bill “aluminum” Foley dropped a deuce for the Bruins in a losing cause. Foley has endured some adversity over the past few seasons recovering from injury. His off-season regiment of beans and green grapes has benefitted immensely as he looks to regain his scoring touch. Watch out for this Leaf team, though, they’ve got the engines revving up, getting ready to shift things into another gear. You heard it here first.

Senators 2 Sharks 1: The Sharks were missing several key players for this one but kept it close all night. Didn’t help that their goalie Bruno Santanato had at least 41 shots fired his way but he held his own. The ice bath got a good workout afterward but Bruno said it was well worth it. They fell a bit short as the Sens edged them 2-1. Brock Hotrum and Henry Marfisi scored for the Senators and Joad Durst had the lone Shark goal. Sharks burgeoning forward Chris Scott has the ability to take another large step in his career after his impressive 24/25 campaign. Good timing as his contract runs out in April. Sens goalkeeper Scott Mlekuz whisked away 23 shots for the W and showed that he can play in this damn league and navigate through anyone who wants to try and screen him.

Grand Masters:

Flyers 3 Bruins 3: Pat Sergi scored the tying goal with about 5 minutes left as the Flyers salvaged a 3-3 tie against a robust Bruin team looking to make an impact early in the season. Tim Manning scored a pair for the Bruins and since team captain Gord Bryce introduced their new playbook, “the slant” formation seems to be working well. Give it up to the Bruin wives and significant others who crushed the SCOHA Loonie hotdog night by going through 16 steamed dogs, a new record. Flyers were missing Jimmy Albanese which is quite a hole to fill as a forward unit. Jim is laser-focussed on a championship ring this year and no one is going to stop him.

Sharks 2 Blackhawks 2: Sharks Dave Jarvis scored the game tying goal with 21 seconds left, all 4 fans went berserk, as this one finished 2-2. Dennis “from the land of” Klander and Billy Kircos scored highlight-reel goals for the Hawks as this game had more ups and downs than a toilet plunger for crying out loud. If this kind of game is what we have to look forward to, I just might sign up for the SCOHA+ tv package. We has Sharks Bob Tirnanic on last week’s Pucks in Deep Podcast and he was talking about the guys in his locker room getting along well so early in the season and that becoming a vegetarian is a huge missed steak.

Kraken 4 Stars 1: Kraken’s Sam Carubba scored the game winner as the Kraken mauled the Stars 4-1. William Reid scored the lone Stars goal and has been impressive so far this season according to published reports. The Stars unfortunately couldn’t get the tractor running and let this one get away. Stars GM Chris Baratto spoke to reporters after the game and seemed optimistic despite the loss. “Back to practice this week, might juggle around with some line combinations, who knows.” This tireless veteran promises a better effort after the Thanksgiving break.

Well that wraps up another week from this end of the ice. United play Friday night while both Masters Divisions have the weekend off for some turkey and gravy. Regardless, have a great weekend, see you next week.
