Week 9 A Division Highlights

Well, we've played everybody once. The Leafs and Canucks keep winning, the Blues and Sharks are fading and the Flyers are surging. The big story of the 1st 9 weeks is all the ties - 45 games - 11 ties.

The Canucks remained undefeated by blanking the Sharks 6-0 behind the 2nd consecutive shutout by Steve "Father Time" Simon. Mark Powell and Kelly Rintjema each scored twice while Craig McGilvery and Bill MacNeil added singles. Assists to Byron Millette(2), Bill Curran(2), Kelly Rintjema, Pat Baldwin, Bill MacNeil and John Annibale.

The Flames scorched the Blues 4-1. This should have been a low scoring affair with over 100 years of goaltending experience between the pipes courtesy Messrs Simon and Ellis. Ralph Sciullo(Rick Baumgartner), Rick Baumgartner(Ralph Sciullo and Joel Tambeau), Gene Dupuis(John Zanon) and Bob Jacobs(Wayne Paxton and Bob Wallace) and each scored for the Flames. #16 for the Blues spoiled Steve Simon's shutout bid with 21 seconds left in the game.

The Flyers blew out the Stars 6-1. Scoring for the Flyers were John Elter(Dave Arbic,Tod Kerr), Les Pierce(Dave Brand,Jeff Doucette), Paul Doucette(Dave Brand,Jeff Doucette), Jeff Doucette(John Elter, Paul Doucette)Dave Arbic(Rob Diemer,Tod Kerr) and Tod Kerr(Brad Kinnear). Replying for the Stars was Paul Stubbs(Joel Taggart, #21).

The Friday night left coast game was not well attended by players or fans. Both sides conscripted help from the the 10:00 tilt and the match ended in a 2-0 shutout for the Leafs over the Bruins. Hank Prenger scored both Leaf goals with assists going to Rob Howarth and #19.

The Rangers dumped the Devils 6-1. Scoring for the Rangers : John Pasalic(Nick Mol,Dennis McLaren), Dale Brons(Greg Ross, #18), John Pasalic(Dennis McLAren,Nick Mol), Marco DelConte(Dennis McLaren, John Pasalic), Bill Kircos(John Pasalic) and Frank D'Alessandro(Matt Krusto, Mike MacPherson). Scoring for the Devils was Rick Grunwald(Sam Monte, Kevin Doyle).
