Player Replacement Policy

Guidelines for Use of Replacement Players

In the interest of Safety and Fun, we will use Replacement Players if a team knows 24 hours in advance that they cannot field a team of at least 10 players. It is not fun to come to the rink with an extremely short bench and try to compete with an opponent with a full team.

     The Policy is as follows:

  1. An Executive member (The VP of the division) will oversee and assign all replacement players.
  2. Teams will only be given replacement players if they can only field less than 10 players.
  3. Replacement players can be from the waiting list or from the existing members that wish to sign up as replacement players and possibly play an extra game. Replacement players going from the Master to Intermediate Division will be ranked 1.0 lower as a replacement. Players going from the Intermediate to the Master Division will be ranked 1.0 higher than their Intermediate Ranking. Replacement Players coming from the Waiting List who are not registered SCOHA players will be required to pay a onetime $25 fee to cover insurance costs for the current season.
  4. Team Reps are required to call the executive in charge and request replacement players while providing the missing players Names and Rankings at least 24 hours before game time.
  5. Replacement players are only allowed if your team is missing a minimum of 4 players and this is communicated to the VP at least 24 hours in advance.
  6. Team reps are required to obtain jerseys from their missing teammates or a complete team set of jerseys from the executive with notice at least 24 hours in advance.
  7. Team Reps can request a defenseman or forward and the Executive in charge will do his best to accommodate this request.
  8. If you are missing 4 players and any two players that will miss have a combined ranking of 9.5 or higher you are eligible to receive the highest ranked player available.
  9. If you are missing 4 players and the top two players do not have a combined ranking of 9.5 you will be assigned a player of the second highest ranking or lower from the call up list.
  10. If you are missing 5 players and the top two players do not have a combined ranking of 9.5 you will be assigned a player of the second highest ranking or lower and one with the fourth highest ranking or lower from the call up list. If only one player is desired as a replacement bringing the total number of players to 9 you will be assigned a player equal to the missing player with the third highest ranking.
  11. If you are missing 5 players and the top two players have a combined ranking of 9.5 you will be assigned a player of the highest ranking or lower and one with the fourth highest ranking or lower from the call up list. If only one player is desired as a replacement bringing the total number of players to 9 you will be assigned a player equal to the missing player with the third highest ranking or lower.
  12. If more than 5 players are missing the above rules will apply with additional players be assigned backfilling the lowest rankings first.
  13. Teams are not required to use replacement players unless the number of players is below forfeit limit.
  14. Once a replacement player is called the players that have been named as missing players cannot play in the game should circumstances change unless communicated to the replacement player 24 hours in advance through the VP of the division.  (We do not want replacement players sent home or teams playing with 11 players or more that include replacement players.)
  15. No replacement players are allowed during play-offs.
