This Week in SCOHA - April 10th 2017


Championship

Junior

Bruins 4 - Red Wings 1         Bruins capped off a magical playoffs and downed the Wings. Tom Mitchell with a pair in this good game to close up the season for the Junior Division.

 

Intermediate

Flyers 10 - Penguins 9    TSN and ESPN are in a mad scramble to get the footage for their instant classic show. Flyers had leads of 5-0 and 7-3 and 8-5 and then had it all crumble with only 12 seconds left. It had to go to OT and nothing was decided and then went to shoot out  and the Flyers prevailed and proved that in the playoffs it all starts for real (they finished dead last in the regular season).  Big scores for Captain Dave's team Rob Baker with 4 goals and  3 helpers and Jim Lennie with 3 goals. Pens led by Captain Dave Armstrong with 3 goals as did Brian Powell with his own hat trick.

 

Masters

Sharks 4 - Red Wings 2    Sharks have done it a rare feat as they win back to back championships under Captain Ron. The game was a nail biter as the Sharks got a late empty net goal. Sharks had two goals by Mike Archer  and were aided by good goaltending by Richard Paquet.

FINAL FOUR

Junior

Red Wings 4 - Penguins 1  In a full team effort the Wings took down the mighty Pens Friday night 

Bruins 5 - Flyers 0   Bruins' goalie Roman Bratovz got the SHO and Kirk Blancher with a pair of goals as they steam rolled the Flyers 

Intermediate

Penguins 8 -  Blackhawks 4      5th seed Penguins the  Cinderella story led by two hat tricks Bob Tenison and captain Dave Armstrong to double up the Hawks 

Flyers 6 -  Bruins 1    6th seed (last)  Flyers the true Cinderella story and Rob Baker had the hat trick to take apart the Bruins 

Masters

Sharks 6 - Blackhawks 3   The full complement of healthy Sharks proved too much for the under manned and sick BlackHawk squad as they got two from Mike Archer to double up the Hawks

RedWings 4 - Canadiens 1  First place in regular season and first place in the round robin and now off to the big game, can the Wings go end to end?

Final Game of the Round Robin

Junior:

Flyers 7 - Blackhawks 2   Flyers ended the Hawks' season as Jason Aguanno had a pair.   Hawks' Doug Moulton had both tallies

Bruins 4  - Redwings 2   Bruins' Tom Mitchell had the hat trick as he helped double up the Wings

Penguins 4  - Oilers 2  Pens move on and the Oilers are off to the golf course

 

Intermediate:

Flyers 3  - Blackhawks 3  A playoff tie for Cinderella Flyers  as they move on as do the Hawks

Sharks 4 -  Kings 2  In a meaningless game sadly , both teams seasons are done and now get to watch the final four .  Sharks' Walter Blagdon had a pair

Penguins 4 -  Bruins 1  Pens' captain Dave Armstrong with a pair as they upset the Bruins

 

Masters:

Sharks 6 -  Canadiens 2   Dave Dickey led the way for the big win for the Sharks, However the Cinderella Habs are still alive with the four seed as Jason Anderson scored both goals

Blackhawks 6 -  Flyers 2  Hawks' Mark Shadwell and Kevin Boyd with a pair each as they eliminated the Flyers Sunday night

Redwings 4 -  Stars 3   Wings finished a perfect 3 and 0 led by Dale Brons as they eliminated the Stars on Sunday

Round Robin game 2 Junior

 

Oilers 5 - Bruins 3      Oilers (1-1) with a big upset win led by captain Steven Ditta with a pair .  Bruins  (1-1) Mike Haslam with a pair in the losing cause

Penguins 8 - Blackhawks 2  The Pens (2-0 ) smoked the Hawks (0-2) led by Shawn James with three and Brian Spilak with two as did John Zanon

Redwings 4 - Flyers 3  Wings  (1-1) led by Rob Merrit with a pair as they upset the Flyers (1-1)

 

Intermediate:

Kings 3 -  Penguins 3   The veteran Pens (1-0-1)  played came out and attacked the  Kings Sunday night with Bob Mitchell saving a bunch .   Kings (0-1-1) led by Glen Rouse with pair  

Bruins 1 - Flyers 1  Major playoff goaltending duel on both sides. As the Cinderella Flyers (last place in regular season)  on a roll tied the regular season champs  Bruins (1-0-1) and Flyers (1-0-1)

Blackhawks 3 - Sharks 2  Black Hawks (1-1) in a must win with Andy Rossit with a pair to help nip the Sharks (0-2)

 

Masters:

BlackHawks 5 -  Stars 2  The undermanned BlackHawks (1-0-1) got their mojo with Kevin Boyd and Mark Shadwell filling the net two times each.   The Stars (0-2)  led by Jim Bartlett with both goals

RedWings 3 -  Canadiens 2   In a supposed mismatch the First place Wings (2-0) in tough vs the Habs  (0-1-1) as the Habs gave the wings all they could handle

Sharks 2 - Flyers 2  They played even all year and this was no exception.  Sharks ( 1-0-1) and Flyers at (0-1-1)

This Week in SCOHA - March 6th 2017


First game of round robin

Junior:

Penguins 5 - Redwings 4 - Almost a big upset to start the playoffs as the Pens did get by the Wings by a goal

Flyers 6 - Oilers 2 - Flyers' Ross Lacasse had a pair and Sean Riley chipped in with three helpers as they beat up the Oil

Bruins 6 - Blackhawks 2 - Bruins got two goals each from Corey Hall and Glen Erskine.

Intermediate:

Bruins 4 - Sharks 3 - It was the Wayne Sliwinski show with all four goals to get by the Sharks

Penguins 7 - Blackhawks 5 - In the mega upset of the night, the Pens' Al Granata with two goals, and Dave Armstrong four assists And for the losing Hawks Charlie Polizzi one goal and three assists

Flyers 2 - Kings 0 in the other mega upset of the night, the last place Flyers with clutch goaltending by Etien Venne with the shutout.

Masters:

Redwings 5 - Flyers 3 - First place Wings with two goals each from Ian Hamilton and Bob Schweyer. For the Flyers, they got two goals from Ron Hall

Sharks 4 - Stars 2 -The Sharks continue to be on a roll as they had four separate scorers to down the Stars.

Blackhawks 4 - Canadiens 4 -What was going to be the mega upset of the season, the last place Habs and some hot goaltending were up 4-1 with only 2:04 left in the game . Then it all unfolded the Hawks' Grant Voisin got a pair of clutch goals and Mark Shadwell got a goal to tie it up. Junior: “Game 23” Last regular season game 

Flyers 4 - Oilers 4 Game 23 had a bunch of ties as the Flyers and Oilers battled to a draw
Bruins 1 - Blackhawks 1 The goalie dual of the weekend
Penguins 7 -  Redwings 4 Pens put the puck in the net 7 times as they were led by

Intermediate: “Game 23” Last regular season game

Sharks 8 - Penguins 3 The Pens got pounded often and early by the Sharks led by Mike Martini with a pair
Kings 2 - Flyers 2 Nice game by the Flyers going into the playoffs as they tied up the Sharks
Blackhawks 5 -  Bruins 3 Hawks got by the Bruins

Masters: “Game 23” Last regular season game

Canadiens 2 - Sharks 2 The Habs picked a point as they deadlocked the Sharks
Redwings 3 -  Blackhawks 2 Dale Brons of the Wings opened the scoring up quickly and he ended the game with a goal ( with about 12 seconds left) as the Wings clipped the Hawks
Flyers 4 -  Stars 4 The Flyers and Stars could not solve a thing on Sunday as it ended in a tie

Junior: "Game 22"

Penguins 7 -  Blackhawks 2  Pens' Brian Spilak had a hat trick and John Zanon had a pair  as the Pens torched the Hawks Friday night

Redwings 5 -  Flyers 3  Wings got three from Rob Merrit

Bruins 5 -  Oilers 2  Bruins got two from Kirk Blancher

 

Intermediate: "Game 22"

Kings 4 -   Sharks 1  Kings got a balanced attack as they took out the Sharks

Bruins 6 -  Penguins 3  Bruins doubled up on the Pens and John Hewitt had a pair and in a losing cause Brian Powell with a pair

Flyers 7 -  Blackhawks 4  Flyers blasted the Hawks. Jim Lennie with three and Rob Baker with two,  in a losing cause Charlie Polizzi with a hat trick

 

Masters: "Game 22"

Stars 4 -  Blackhawks 2  The Stars with some slick goaltending ( Gord Johnson)  held the Hawks down Sunday.  Ringer/spare Bob with a pair

Sharks 6 -  Flyers 2  Sharks' Kevin Feist with a pair  as the Sharks  handled the Flyers

Redwings 2 -  Canadiens 2  In the surprise of the night , The Habs tied the first place Wings Pete Fantauzo with pair

This Week in SCOHA - Feb 14th 2017


Junior:  "Game 21"

Bruins 6 -  Redwings 4      Bruins' Glen Erskine and Greg Lintott both with two as they helped down the Red Wings led by Walt Blagdon with a pair

Penguins 1 -  Flyers 1  Battle of the hot goalies and nothing settled

Oilers 7 -  BlackHawks 1    Oilers pasted the Hawks led by Lino Ruggieri and Ryan Aikens and Dino LaPorta with two each as the help lead the slaughter Friday night

 

Intermediate: "Game 21"

Bruins 6 -  Flyers 0   Bruins' Garnet Wilson with shutout number #4  and Alfonse Tinebro with a pair

Blackhawks   7 -  Sharks 3   Hawks drubbed the Sharks led by Jeff Davis with the hat trick and two goals by Charlie Polizzi

Kings 7 -  Penguins 6  In a crazy game with Captain King Mike Vanderzee with a pair as did Alan Herron squeaked past the Pens led by Dave Armstrong with count them four goals  

 

Masters: "Game 21"

Sharks 5 -  Redwings 2   Sharks led by newbie Kevin Feist with his first two   and Wings got both by Dale Brons

Stars 6 -  Canadiens 2  Stars' John Jansen with the hat trick and Guy Shaver with a pair as they downed the last place Habs

Flyers 5 -  BlackHawks 3  Despite Danny Wilde going top shelf , the Flyers got past the Hawks . Flyers got a pair from Vince Mercuri

Junior:  "Game 20" 
Flyers 7 -  Blackhawks 3     Flyers led by Daryl Kator with a pair in the win and in the losing effort Dennis Cybalski with a pair 
Redwings 5 -  Oilers 3         Red Wings led by Mark Powell with a pair and the Oilers' Bryan Purins had a pair in a losing cause 
Bruins 5 -  Penguins 3         Bruins got by the Pens Friday night which were led by Greg Lintott with a pair 
Intermediate:  "Game 20" 
Penguins 8 -  Blackhawks 5   In the crazy game of the night Pens led by the big guns Brian Powell with three and Bob Tenison with a pair  as well as                                            Gary Poole and the  Hawks led by Jeff Davis with the Hat Trick 
Sharks 5 -   Flyers 2           Sharks' Nick Miscione with the hat trick and Walt Blagdon with a pair as they got by the Flyers 
Kings 2 -  Bruins 2             The Kings and Bruins could not determine a winner 
Masters: "Game 20" 
Flyers 4 -  Canadiens 3       Flyers got by the last place Habs 
Redwings 2 -  Stars 1         In a battle to the end the Wings got by the surging Stars 
Sharks 3 -  Blackhawks 2    In a key 4 point game the Sharks snapped the Hawks win streak and nipped them by one

Pens 5 - Oilers 3    Pens' Shawn James with two goals as he helped get past the Oilers Friday night

RedWings 5 - BlackHawks 1    Wings' Mark Powell with two goals as he helped get past the hawks

Flyers 1 -  Bruins 1      Lots of saves as this game could not find a winner

BlackHawks 5 - Kings 2     Hawks' Charlie Polizzi with the hat trick as they beat the Kings

Penguins 5 -  Fyers 3        Pens got by the Flyers in a PM filled game

Sharks 4 - Bruins 2      Sharks doubled up the Bruins on Sunday in a spirited affair

BlackHawks 3 - Habs 2    Hawks kept rolling as Kevin Boyd with two more to add to his totals as they nipped an improving Habs

Stars 4  - Sharks 1     It was the Larry Litzgus show as he had all 4 as the Stars rolled the Sharks
