Week 8 A Division Highlights and Ramblings

Week 8 is a wrap and 3 teams remained tied for top spot with 12 points. Eight points separate top from bottom as the action heats up in the junior division.

Don Ellis helped with this weeks highlights, as could everybody else - don't be shy.

Norm Lyell posted his 100th career shutout as the surging Leafs defeated the 3rd place Rangers 2-0. The goose egg leaves Norm only 3 behind record holder Terry Sawchuck at 103. Jack Dell scored both Leaf goals assisted by Bill McBay on both and Frank Vromans on the 2nd goal.

The suddenly toothless Sharks were sunk for their 2nd loss of the season in an 8-2 feeding frenzy by the high-flying Flyers. The win moves the Flyers into a 2nd place tie with the Sharks. Jeff "Mama Let Him Play" Doucette (no, that was Jerry ...) had a big night bagging a hattrick and adding 4 helpers for a total of 7 points. Other goals were scored by Paul Doucette(2), John Elter, Dave Brand and Dave Arbic. Assists to John Elter, Dave Brand, Les Pierce, # 20, Paul Doucette and Ken Field. Tom Burns and # 14 replied for the Sharks with assists by Glenn Stuebing and Ron McKelvie.

The undefeated and oft-tied Canucks continue to roll along as they slipped past the Bruins 3-0, behind the shutout goaltending of the ageless wonder Steve Simon. Scoring for the Canucks were Craig McGilvery(unassisted), Mark Powell(from Craig McGilvery and Mike archer) and Kelly Rintjema (sent in alone in the dying seconds on a pass from Gino Tittarelli).

The rejuvenated Devils picked up their 3rd point in the past two games by tying the Flames (what else) 2-2. Queue the banjo music, this is Flames 4th sister kisser of the season. Finding the twine for the Devils were #s 14 and 12 who were both too shy to put their names on the game sheet. Assists to Gary Atkinson, Bill "The new guy" Commu, Kevin Doyle and another shy guy - #10. Paul McGraw and Joel Tambeau scored for the Flames , neither of them being too shy to sign the sheet, and they were helped by Bob Jacobs, Bob Wallace and Bob Tambeau (Joel, really).

The Blues hung on to some first place real estate and left the Stars with a sad, low down feeling in the basement as they pulled out a 4-3 win. Blues that found the back of the net were Jim Hill, Guy (The other guy)Shaver, Mike Ciavarella and John Sebastiano. Not scoring for the Blues was Glen Zdriluk because he's not playing this year. Assists went to Paul Hayes(2), Mauris Cecca(2), John Sebastiano, Guy Shaver and again, not Glen Zdriluk. The Stars scoring goals were Paul Stubbs(unnassisted), Frank Mercuri(from Paul Stubbs and Manny Tabore) and Carl Buchner(from Denis Whitwell).
